Apple Harvest Cake

I wanted to bake something different.  I had a box of spice cake mix so I looked on-line and found a recipe.  Of course I didn't follow it.  But used it for an idea.

I peeled, cored and sliced 3 small apples and put on bottom of 13x9 pan.  Sprinkled 1/3C brown sugar, dotted with about 5 or 6 tbs butter and sprinkled a couple handful of chopped walnuts.
Mixed the cake as directed but replaced oil with applesauce.  Poured over apple mixture.
Baked for about 40 minutes.  Let cool and turned it onto a long pan.

I could of make a powdered sugar glaze to drizzle over, but I had some caramel sauce in fridge, so I drizzled that on top and put a dollop of whipped cream on the individual slice.
This really is an Apple upside down cake.  It turned out great and was especially delicious when still warm.
